Parent Volunteers Needed!!!

We need you to make our program successful! Putting together and running a first-class program like the Titans takes a lot of work. Those involved do not get paid for their efforts. This is an all-volunteer organization.

To avoid having a small group of people bear the brunt of the work, we require that all families sign up to volunteer at least once during the season. We have all types of jobs. Some volunteer positions are designed to help out a specific team. Others may be more generic in nature and help out the entire league. Some may require just a little bit of your time. Others may be more involved. Think about it, and do what you can. We are asking that you, in addition to your child, consider becoming part of our "team".

Below is a list of the volunteer positions for our league. When you register your child, you will be asked to sign up to volunteer for at least one of these positions for a minimum of once during the season. We know your time is valuable, and you may only be able to volunteer one time, but if you could do it more often than that, WE WOULD ALL BE GRATEFUL!!

For all of these jobs, you will have guidance and support from your team coaches. Once the season begins, if you find you have more time to volunteer than what you originally signed up for at registration, please let your child’s coach know.

We welcome all help.

All-season volunteer positions:

Position

Description

Team Mom or Dad

This person will work with the coach and team volunteers to help out a team in whatever way they can. For example, helping coordinate the distribution of uniforms, helping organize the players on photo day, and helping distribute handouts at practices. This person will also be the person who coordinates the other volunteers for their specific team and makes sure that everything is running smoothly. For example, he/she should check with and serve as a resource for the Team’s Snack Manager, Ambassador, Special Event Coordinator, Uniform Manager, and so on.

Team Ambassador

This person will serve as a contact person who can be called upon to help team members find rides or to help a new lacrosse parent learn the ropes. They will be aware of the players’ addresses and phone numbers so that they can recommend a nearby teammate who may be able to assist with car pooling. This person will also help out with telephone calls if they need to be made for game cancellations.

Team Snack Manager

This person will put together and oversee a schedule for parents bringing half-time orange slices and extra water, cups and ice for games. We hope that all parents will be willing to bring orange slices for the players and/or ice and extra water to at least one game during the season. The players really appreciate the oranges, especially when they are hot and tired. The slices provide them with an extra energy boost during our half-time break, and extra water and ice is greatly appreciated on those hot days when players finish off all that was in their own personal water bottles.

Team Uniform Manager

This person assists in the distribution and collection of uniforms. This is a twice-a-season job.

Team Special Event Coordinator

One of the most rewarding aspects to this lacrosse program is to see the bonds that form between the players on the team during the season. Team spirit is what makes us great. If you can work with the coaches to help coordinate some activities, please let us know. For example, popsicles during practice on a hot Saturday afternoon, a team trip into Boston to watch a Boston Cannons game, a group presence at a local lacrosse clinic, or a pizza party on the field at the end of the season are all events that are both enjoyable and help to strengthen team spirit.

End-of-Season Jamboree and Banquet Coordinators

These people will work together during the season to ensure that the Titans are able to host a Jamboree and to have some type of end-of-the-season gathering for the players. Once a plan is established, others may be requested to help out during the event to make sure that it is a huge success.

Once-a-season, all-season, or as-needed volunteer positions:

Position

Description

Team Snack Providers

These people are family members who are willing to provide a half-time snack (such as orange slices) or an end-of-the-game snack (especially for those away games) at least once during the season. They are also people who would be willing to bring some extra water and ice on hot days for teams in case the players run out. The Team Snack Manager will be responsible for coordinating a schedule.

Note: If you bring a snack, a small trash bag to collect the orange peels or wrappings when players are done is much appreciated.

Team Goal Keeper Warm-er-upper

Anyone who can take shots on our goal keepers during practice sessions or to warm up before games would be of value. (Prior lacrosse experience required.)

Field Liners

Lining the fields is a job that needs to be done several times during the season. Anyone who can help out with this effort would be MUCH appreciated.

Note: This job is not hard to do. It just takes a little time. Once the field is lined the first time, it is very easy to do subsequent times.

Home Game Field Personnel

People who can help coordinate all tasks necessary to pull off a home game would really ease the burden on our coaches. For example, helping the Game Day Equipment Manager to unlock the nets and set them up in the proper locations on the field, making sure that people attending the event are seated on the correct side of the field (no one but coaches and players should ever be on the team side of the field), working a concession table if we have one, keeping an eye out for anyone who litters, and taking down the nets and locking them up at the end of the game. You can sign up for a specific home game volunteer position or sign up for this generic one to let us know you'll be available for whatever we need done.

Concession Stand Personnel

Depending on the field where home games are played, we may be able to host a concession stand to sell snacks, drinks, hot dogs, and possibly promotional items. As one of the home game field personnel, people working the concession stand may need to set up the stand (if you are the first game of the day), sell whatever we've got, and take down the stand (if you are the last game of the day). We can always use help, whether it is for 1/2 an hour, an hour, or the entire afternoon.

Bakers for Concession Stand

Those willing to bake some individually bagged food such as cookies or brownies, cut-up some fruit and place it in cups, or think up some other tasty treat for our concession stand are always welcome.

Note: Teams may also be asked on a rotating basis during the season to provide some baked treats to sell at the concession stand.

Field Cleanup Manager

This person will keep plastic grocery bags in their trunk and coordinate field clean up at games. They will work with coaches to make players clean up after themselves.

Timers

People willing to monitor game time will be needed for home games.

Statisticians

Two statisticians will be needed for each game, one for offense and one for defense.

Game Day Equipment Manager

This person will coordinate the set up (and take down) of the table, chairs, timer and horn being used that day at home games. Home game field personnel will assist.

Uniform Sizing Assistants

A few parents for each team who can help during one of the initial practice sessions to measure players for their correct uniform sizes will cut down on the time and effort the coach has to give to this process. When there aren't enough people to help out, it takes valuable practice time away from the players.

Photographers

Photographers, preferably those with a digital camera, are always welcome. Also, one person who can coordinate each team's photos for our Web site would be much appreciated.

Videographers

Anyone taking videos at games would be most welcome. These videos would be used as learning tools.

50/50 Raffle volunteers

We'd like to hold a 50/50 raffle during each game and we will need volunteers to sell the tickets before the game and during the first half of the game. The volunteers for each game will also be responsible for drawing and announcing the winner of the raffle at half time.

Fundraising Assistants

Fundraising is extremely important because there is always a use for extra funds in a lacrosse program. One of the ways the Titans raises money during the season is through “canning”, whereupon we set up table in store entryways to request money from patrons. During upcoming seasons, we will also be trying to solicit funds from businesses. If you come up with fundraising ideas or can volunteer with efforts in any way, it would be much appreciated.

End-of-Season Jamboree and Banquet Personnel

These people will help out with the end-of-the-season jamboree, banquet, or other such event as decided upon by the coordinators. Their participation may vary widely and could include items such as lining fields, directing traffic, flipping burgers, picking up trash, and so on.
